Admissions are now open for PRIA’s ten week Appreciation Courses (Start Date: 4th June 2012)
PRIA International Academy of Lifelong Learning (PIALL), the academic wing of PRIA, believes in learning as a lifelong process and promotes the concept of education as a major instrument of development. It supports the premise that education is a human right, which improves the quality of life.
PIALL draws upon the knowledge and resources of PRIA, which are in the form of research studies, field reports, audio-visual documentation, case studies, published books, newsletters and journals. They have been repackaged into learning material, which carry the PRIA brand and stand apart as quality products, which are value for money.
The Appreciation Courses
The Appreciation Courses are of ten weeks duration and the next offering begins 4th June 2012, the last date of application being29th May, 2011.
Concepts and Trends in Adult Education Programmes: This course will provide a conceptual understanding of Adult Education in terms of its emergence, andragogy and critical perspectives. It will give a brief description of the activities undertaken by various International bodies and networks addressing different issues related to Adult Education Programmes. It will also look at contemporary trends in Adult Education to give an overall perspective of the importance of Adult education in the 21st Century.
Designing Adult Education Programmes: This course will explore essential steps in determining programme aims, goals and objectives of adult education programmes. It will also provide a brief description about the instructional techniques, resources and modes of communication by highlighting adult education programmes from select Asian countries.
Participatory Monitoring of Adult Education Programmes: Here the learner will learn to understand the importance of monitoring adult education programmes. It will give an overview of the methodologies involved in monitoring such programmes and how through proper reporting and dissemination of monitoring results the targets mentioned in the plans can be achieved.
Women’s Participation Towards Political Empowerment and Leadership: This course will provide conceptual clarity on governance and the impact that it has on achieving an engendered governance system in which both men and women have equal decision making authority has been emphasized. Its objective is to produce learners who will in turn train/facilitate others, including grassroots women leaders in their respective locales.
Prevention of Sexual Harassment in the Workplace:Here a better understanding of the problems of discrimination faced by women in the workplace will be provided. It will enable learners to gain perspective on how the issue of sexual harassment at the workplace can be addressed and mitigated through different policies at the organisatonal level.
Participatory Integrated District Planning: This course shall explore the idea of bottom up or multi level planning rooted in the concepts of sustainable development and inclusive growth. It will help the learner to critically examine the importance of a culture of transparency and civic engagement to assure downward accountability.
Participatory Approaches for Social Inclusion in Development Programmes: This course will detail the role of the local governments, their mandate and effectiveness in dealing with issues of social exclusion and highlight reforms in local governance institutions that have generated legal and technical apparatus to institutionalize participation of the most marginalized section of the society.
Participatory Social Audit: A Tool for Social Accountability: This course will give an outline of the different approaches to social accountability and will also give relevance to the term ‘accountability from below’ in the present context. It will help the learner to understand about social audit as a monitoring tool and the various steps involved in social auditing of development.
Participatory Urban Planning:This course will give a better understanding of Urban Planning in the Global perspective with specific importance to the Indian context. It will look at the intricacies related to Governance as well as the challenges faced in the process of Urban Governance and the impact of Good Governance in development. It will further lay out the need of participation in the Urban Planning and give an insight to the challenges and issues related to the Participatory Urban Planning.
Participatory Activity Mapping in Decentralised Planning: This course will enable the participant to understand and adapt in his/her specific context some of the major stages in Activity Mapping processes including overall mapping and analysis of all functions which governments in the State perform; analysis of legal framework of state and local governments to understand possible readjustments in functional domains of governments; participatory analysis of field realities (capacities, potential and positioning) to understand what activity could be performed best at which level and formalization of activity mapping through legal processes.
Eligibility
The minimum required qualification is a higher secondary (Class 12) certificate and the medium of instruction will be in English.
Fees
The course fee is Rs.3000/- (excluding bank charges) for applicants in India, Rs. 4000/- (INR) (excluding bank charges) for South Asian applicants or 100 US$ (excluding bank charges) for applicants outside India.
Scholarships
Scholarships are available to deserving applicants from India and South Asia on specific courses.
